A Nurses Love and dedication...

A Nurses Love and dedication...

chaos when everyone else is running away.

I grew up watching her dedication with a profound, quiet awe. I saw her leave the dinner table to catch a shift because the hospital was short-staffed. I saw her come home with dark circles under her eyes, her feet aching, yet her spirit entirely unbroken. She gave her patients everything she had—her skill, her time, and her bottomless well of empathy. She was the calm voice in a terrified stranger’s darkest hour, the steady hand holding theirs when they were most alone.

I admired her more than anyone else on earth. To me, those scrub tops weren’t just uniforms. They were the capes of a real-life superhero.

The Weight of a Hug

My favorite part of the day was always the moment she walked through the front door. The instant she crossed the threshold, the intense, vigilant "ER Nurse" persona would melt away, and she was just Mom again.

She would drop her bag, open her arms, and wrap me in a hug that made the rest of the world vanish. I would bury my face right into the chest of that green scrub top. It was always soft from a thousand washes, carrying a faint hint of hospital soap and the lavender lotion she kept in her pocket. In those arms, wrapped in that fabric, I felt completely invincible.

Even as a child, I knew that the very same fabric had comforted dozens of people that day. It had been leaned on by weeping relatives, gripped by patients in pain, and pushed to its limits during life-saving moments. Yet, when she was with me, she made me feel like I was the only person in the world who mattered.

A Beautiful Legacy

Years later, when Mom finally retired, she handed down a box of her old nursing gear to me. Among the old stethoscopes and retirement cards was that favorite green scrub top, now beautifully faded and soft as silk.

Holding it in my hands, I was overwhelmed by the sheer history woven into the threads. Every wrinkle told a story of a life saved, a comfort given, and a woman who sacrificed her own comfort so that others could heal. I reached out to ashes.LOVE, and they made an inlay ring of her scrub top. Now, I carry a piece of her with me every day. A gentle reminder of a heart, so gentle and yet so strong.
I wear that piece when I need her most. I feel like she's next to me when I need her most.
